As an eco-conscious adult, you’ll want your legacy to live on with your like-minded little ones. My Little Pakora, a line of planet friendly clothing and accessories for baby, takes pride in its low-impact processing (using certified organic cotton from sustainable farms and toxin-free dyeing), helping ensure a green future for the next generation.
The darling designs are inspired by founder Sonia Gupta’s South Asian heritage. What’s more, My Little Pakora features helpful educational material on how to live more healthfully, incorporating local and organic nutrition, yoga, and natural remedies into your routine as part of pregnancy and parenting. In India, these practices have existed long before today’s contemporary trends. So My Little Pakora is not only selling the green goods, they’re living it as well.
Raising a culturally clever kid has never been so easy. Or so adorable.

Ditching plastic bags is an honorable goal but if you want to lift your eco efforts to the next level, using totes made from organic cotton is the way to go. While we applaud anyone who forgoes plastic in favor of a reusable tote, many of the bags that tout themselves as eco-friendly aren’t really green. (more…)

Under my Brella
Date: November 14, 2008 | Category: Accessories, Lifestyle, Travel & Leisure
Getting drenched is definitely not fabulous, but having an eco-friendly umbrella handy is.
Most rain devices were conceived to protect you from the rain but little thought was given to protecting the environment. Thankfully, there was a competition a while back that encouraged people to come out from under their PVC umbrellas and invent a better system. The Brelli was the “clear” winner. A more compact and less expensive take on the idea is the Totes Eco ‘brella, made almost entirely of recycled and biodegradable materials (not mixed). The canopy is made of 100 percent recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottles; while the frame is made of 70 percent recycled aluminum. The umbrella, which costs $30, sports a bamboo handle and a waxed hemp strap, and features a handy auto-open button. Best of all, it folds up small and will fit in a purse, backpack or even a coat pocket.
And, so that you don’t drown in a sea of black umbrellas, the Eco ’brella comes in four colors and features the universal recycling symbol as a reminder of your dedication to the environment.

Recruiting Buffalo Soldiers
Date: November 11, 2008 | Category: Accessories, Bags, Fashion, Intimates, Jewelry, Men, Shoes, Women
The most eco-friendly way to acquire new clothes is to buy them second-hand. But the words “thrift shop” don’t always conjure images of couture, and the idea of sifting though musty racks keeps many people away. But breathing new life into used items is a tenet of green living, which is why everyone seems to be excited that Buffalo Exchange, a hip clothing exchange shop with locations all over the country, is expanding into New York City.
Buffalo Exchange’s first store in Manhattan, at 332 E. 11th Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenue), will open in late November. A sustainable company that works to protect the environment by reusing and recycling clothing, it is a choosy shopper’s source for fashionable clothing and accessories. Items are bought, sold and traded directly with store customers, and used garments can be traded for any item in the store, including jewelry and brand-new clothing (beware of these un-eco items, though). The ever-changing inventory includes designer wear, vintage clothing, jeans, leather and one-of-a-kind items.
So march down to the East Village and trade in your old duds for some new (to you!) ones.

Organic cotton denim isn’t difficult to find these days but the price can cause some the blues. But with a retail price of just $69.50, you’ll want to show off more than just your well-hugged bum.
Dimples are so Cute!

This layette set from Dimples is one of the more magnificent newborn gifts we have seen.
Made of 100 percent organic cotton without any kind of chemical treatments, baby’s delicate soft skin is protected along with the environment. Dimples is owned by husband-and-wife team Jane Anne and Sam McAllister, whose baby wear is manufactured in New Zealand under the strictest standards of quality and fair wages.
The set, which is available in chocolate and sage stripes with a bee embroidered on the front, or in pink with a tiny embroidered rose, includes a playsack with a drawstring at the toes, a hat and a receiving blanket to keep baby fashionable and cozy.
Too bad the sets don’t come in our size!
Nike Kicks Waste to the Curb
Date: November 7, 2008 | Category: Clothing, Featured, Shoes, Travel & Leisure, ecoMan
If you partake in healthy leisure activities like walking, jogging or hiking, chances are you have at least one pair of worn out kicks lying around the house. Peek under the bed, dig into the back of the closet and prepare for a sneaker reincarnation, thanks to Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program.
When your sports shoes have lost their steam, bring them to a Reuse-A-Shoe drop-off location. With about 300 locations around the world, finding one near you shouldn’t be difficult. Each individual can donate up to 10 pairs of shoes at a time - and they don’t have to be Nike’s - so ask your friends and family to hand over their old sneaks and donate them all at once. Or, if you are feeling inspired, start a group shoe drive at your school or office. (more…)
