From Birkenstock to Couture - A Panel on Eco Fashion
Date: September 15, 2008 | Category: Beauty, Events, Fashion, Featured, Women
Are eco-friendly clothes and accessories a passing fad, or is fashion on a path to a healthier planet? Tonight the Commonwealth Club will present a panel of experts, including our own Zem Joaquin, who will discuss the attributes and future of the eco-fashion movement. Industry leaders will share their perspectives on the subject. Moderated by Lynda Grose, assistant professor of fashion design at California College of the Arts, the panel will also include the founder and designer for Del Forte Denim, Tierra Forte; Caren Holzman, director of category management for TransFair USA; Maggie Kim, co-founder and designer for oda; and Joslin Van Arsdal, owner of the hip San Francisco eco-fashion boutique Eco Citizen. Some questions that are likely to be addressed include whether eco-fashion is just superficial fashion hype, what factors are driving eco-fashion forward, whether consumers will always have to balance fashion against sustainability and cost, and what factors tend to affect these decisions. Please join us for this exciting conversation!
