Cleaner Oceans Thanks to Kai

Now that it’s May (we don’t know how it’s the month of the flowers already either), the Bay Area-based Ocean Voyages Institute is launching a rather unconventional fundraising and awareness campaign around plastic in the oceans. For the next 30 days, a goldfish named Kai (the namesake of Project Kaisei) will be swimming around an aquarium-sized representation of the aquatic mess that is the North Pacific Gyre. Web viewers can watch streaming video of the fish in its watery habitat as donations, well, pour in and garbage items are removed. Funds from Facebook go to support the Institute’s next ocean cleanup voyage this summer-debris be darned.
