Teens Are Turning Green

The Teens for Safe Cosmetics have seriously exciting news. Like better than an A on a test, well maybe close. After working closely with some of the greatest and greenest companies out there, in collaboration with Whole Foods, we were able to get our own line of products private labeled (Teens Turning Green). We tested everything and picked what worked for us. If we liked a product by one manufacturer, but didn’t dig the scent, they were accommodating enough to reformulate it! We were able to pick our favorite tried-and-true products to create the first line of truly eco amazing skincare that’s been formulated specifically for young skin. Each of the products we selected attains Whole Food Market’s new Premium Body Care Standard, the most comprehensive in the industry. Our awareness-raising skin and body care line looks great, works flawlessly, and has ingredient lists that you can actually pronounce. Start this school year off fresh-faced and fabulous. Let us know if you love them as much as we do!

Smell the Roses, Not the B.O.

Since commercial deodorants contain a cocktail of potentially harmful chemicals (parabens, phthalates) and anti-perspirants contain aluminum that has been linked to breast cancer, we’re always on the lookout for a healthy way to keep our underarms feeling fresh. The glamorous girls over at Teens for Safe Cosmetics recently turned us on to Weleda’s deodorants. Made with the finest organic and biodynamic raw materials (with the intent of harnessing their healing properties), they’re free from synthetic preservatives and fragrances. In convenient spray bottles (no white streaks here), toss it in your purse or gym bag for refreshing, on the go. For you vegans out there, don’t be alarmed that “glycerin” is a listed ingredient; it’s derived from either coconut or palm kernel oil. And, the alcohol they use is gluten-free and cultivated in Italy, from organic grains. Keep in mind that everyone’s PH is different and you might need to experiment with a few different deordorants before finding your match.
Pretty in Pom

One of the awesome founding teens from Teens for Safe Cosmetics introduced us to the power of the Pomegranate for skin care, and we’re thrilled she did. In Greek mythology, Persephone ate this seductive fruit and was reborn every Spring; so this Spring, how about some Pom rejuvenation? Pomega5 offers the first complete line of therapeutic skin care and nutritional supplements made with biodynamic, cold-pressed Omega 5 rich pomegranate seed oil. The pomegranate - from seed to packaged good - could not be handled with more care to retain its amazing health benefits and respect the land from whence it came. They use no synthetics, fillers or preservatives - therefore, it’s all natural. To get the squeeze on Pomega5, click here.

If you are or know a teen, relative of a teen or just a conscious cosmetic consumer, this is an event worth checking out (here). After all, who isn’t for safe skin care?!
Not Your Mother’s Bar of Soap…According to our Teens
Date: January 15, 2008 | Category: Beauty, Teens for Safe Cosmetics

In the days when our parents were kids, bar soap was all there was, there wasn’t gel soap or liquid soap, there was just the bar. The bar of soap has survived the test of time. The bars we reviewed are the greenest of the green - plant based ingredients, essential oils, mindfully made, nourishing for the body and without synthetic chemicals. Bar soap is a basic and you can purchase our picks below on their websites or at Whole Foods Market.
Dr. Bronner’s Rose Pure-Castile Soap: Forget about all the varieties of elixirs available, because the traditional scented bar soap is back. The elegantly named, Rose Pure-Castile Soap is a pleasure for any bathing experience. The bright pink paper that wraps this simple and unassuming product conceals the ideal bar soap. The thick, long-lasting bar spreads beautifully and evenly, leaving my skin feeling soft and smelling fresh. A steal at $3.99.
Pomega5 Cleansing Bar: Never before has a bar of soap brought me so much joy. I use it every night on my face. The Pomega5 Cleansing Bar can be described in one word: extraordinary! The morning after my first use, my skin was remarkably clearer and felt absolutely incredible. This olive oil-based, soap-free cleanser exfoliates, nourishes and calms my skin. It smells amazing, feels luxurious, and makes my skin look glorious! $18 per bar.
Pangea Organics Tunisian Olive Oil and Coconut Bar Soap: Not only does this soap smell magnificent, but it works better than any soap I’ve ever tried! It smooths my skin while the olive oil keeps it moisturized all day long, so I don’t use lotion anymore. I even suggested that my whole family switch from using conventional bar soap (with potentially harmful ingredients) to Pangea, and they have. If you like this soap, I would also recommend trying other Pangea products. All of the boxes are 100% post consumer paper with organic seeds that you can plant after you soak the box in water. Really innovative and super sustainable. $8 per bar.
Zum Bar Goats Milk Soap: This soap is scrumptious. Soothing goat’s milk is the base ingredient in this bar, and it naturally balances your skin. I love showering with it in the morning because the rejuvenating mint scent (100% essential oils) wakes me up and gets me ready for my day. Zum Bar cleanses, but doesn’t dry my skin out, like other soaps I’ve tried – they use vegetable oils to keep skin moisturized and smooth. All of Zum Bar’s soaps smell great and they come in a variety of fun colors and scents. There are also bar sets, which make terrific gifts. $5.40 per bar.
