We love the modern style of Gold’s pieces, each with an edgy, yet purposeful touch – like cornered, a coffee table that utilizes one leg as a magazine holder, or twisted, a shelving unit with one cube slightly tilted for a subtle focal point. Using FSC certified veneers, solid wood and MDF made from post-consumer recycled content, as well as low-VOC adhesives and finishes, it’s clear that “green” is in Gold’s blood (he attributes much of this to his parent’s conserving, composting and reusing during his childhood). Both wasted #1, wasted #2, and chop chop (a series of cheese boards/ serving trays/ chopping blocks) are made entirely from discarded shop scraps and offcuts (of which most of the material was sustainable to begin with!).

Everyday objects turned into beautifully functional works of art, we’re going to have to argue with Frost on this one – Gold is here to stay.

A hanging laundry hamper, a duffel bag and a garment bag! The new 3-in-1 reusable Green Garmento bag is one piece of dirty laundry you’ll want to share with everyone you know.

The best part? You can use it over and over and over again. With over 300 million pounds of single-use plastic drycleaning bags dumped into the landfill each year, it’s time to start choosing reusable. Available in three different lengths (40″/ 48″ / 54″) one bag will cost you around $10. Made from 100% recyclable polypropylene, each bag comes with an outside ticket pocket so the drycleaner can easily identify your bag, and a long side zipper so you can peek in and check your clothes without having to take the entire bag off.

Wash Green Garmento bags in cold water and hang dry, and though they are designed to last for many many trips, when you are finished with a bag, simply call or email the company to schedule a pick-up – they’ll make sure the bag is recycled!

And while the homes have always been a great value for the price, we’re elated to announce that all LivingHomes prefabs designed by legendary architect Ray Kappe, FAIA, are now available in wood-framing for a substantial reduction in cost. This is coupled with the addition of another Ray Kappe LivingHomes design, the RK6, created especially for smaller, urban infill locations.

The same warm, modern spaces created with complete environmental sensitivity, at a new attractive price point (nearly 30% less than steel-framing), means a huge step forward for sustainable building construction. A recent discovery of Home Sweet block printed fabric and home goods has shown that all you need is a little hand-made, sustainable love.

For most of us, popcorn is an iconic treat, reminding us of movie theaters and greasy, salt-soaked fingers. With all the fun of childhood, 479 Popcorn is an organic treat for the whole family, but make no mistake – this isn’t the regular butter-and-salt basic you grew up on. These tasty little kernels have risen (or popped, if you will) to a whole new level.

Made by hand in San Francisco, 479’s organic heirloom kernels are seasoned with deliciously sinful sugar and salt combinations designed to appease even the most sophisticated palette. With flavors like Alderwood Smoked Sea Salt and Madras Coconut Curry + Cashews, taste buds will never get bored.

For those of us who can’t pick a favorite, $35 gets you a 5-Box Sampler Pack so you can explore a variety of flavors, or grab a P.I.Y.

Reusing old items (like furniture) tops the eco-list of planet conscious peeps everywhere, no question. But as much as we’d love to add a little pre-loved flavor to our home, the challenge often lies in picturing that discarded dresser or crumbling credenza living in your place when it’s just so… trashed. After a trip to Brooklyn based home décor company, Nightwood, it makes the visioning process a breeze: they gather, recover, and repurpose unwanted pieces and offer beautiful, one-of-a-kind goods.

Founded in 2008 by Nadia Yaron and Myriah Scruggs, Nightwood was born out of a necessity for furnishing their own apartment without busting the bank. The ladies soon discovered a knack for artful deconstruction and reconstruction of vintage furniture, using salvaged wood scraps, low-VOC paints, water-based finishes, and organic, natural fabrics. Today, Nightwood offers the best of what repurposing furniture should be: low-impact, natural, and downright gorgeous!

Check out their gallery to browse past projects; if you see something you like, contact them and they’ll customize a piece that’s perfect for you!

Home design is a passion of ours, but how we cringe when we consider that deforestation may have contributed to the wood furniture peddled by mass retailers. Lucky for us, and for you, nesting au natural does not mean having to throw your ethics or aesthetics out the window. We’ve already written about the vanguards behind environment, whose Los Angeles outpost is a regular ecofab stop when we’re in the City of Angels. In nearby Santa Monica, another green-friendly showroom is proving that design can, and should, have a conscience.

Viesso offers a bevy of options for shoppers who value locally-sourced materials, natural fibers, water based glues, and reclaimed wood. From concept to execution, the company focuses on simplifying and streamlining the design process, building pieces with as little waste as possible.

The bamboo Buden bed would be a sleek addition to anyone’s bedroom, while the Plyned dining table is a statement piece that we are currently coveting from afar. That said, we’re thankful that Viesso accommodates customers from all parts of the country, and will even make a donation to the Carbon Fund to offset the price of your plane ticket if you fly out to see the showroom.
