No one told me how much work this dog thing was going to be? The other day my vet told me that I must use some flea repellent on a regular basis! Thankfully one of our writers discovered Animali Belli, Tutta Bella’s line of organic, non-toxic, and biodegradable animal products. They offer excellent alternatives to the typical chemical-based products. Animali Belli’s botanical goods, which come in recyclable packaging (hopefully they will soon improve this further), include a shampoo with insect-repelling citronella and raw, vitamin-rich shea butter (which even has some UV protection). If you don’t get the shampooing down, there is a First Aid Cream, designed for insect bites or skin irritations and contains delicious ingredients like mango butter and cranberry oil. It smells good, but if the air doesn’t, you can try the odor eliminator that uses an oxygen solution to clear the air safely and naturally.

In the US, our dogs produce enough waste to fill an 800-foot-tall football field every year - not the most glamorous image. And scooping all that poop into petroleum-based plastic bags not only leaches toxic chemicals as the whole package slowly breaks down (for thousands of years) in a landfill, but preserves what needn’t be preserved. Leaving scat on the ground isn’t an eco-friendly option either, as 20-30% of all pollutants in waterways can be attributed to canine waste. Solution: use a biodegradable bag. The Business Bags from Spike are made from corn, and the company recently worked with a domestic company to devise an entirely homegrown product. One of our ecofabulous ladies can attest that they decompose in the promised 45 days. Keep in mind; not much biodegrades in a landfill. Give a Dog a (Little) Bone

Training my Pomeranian puppy just got a little easier…and healthier. Koala is one picky pooch, so I’ll be reporting on his current taste test faves. Toy Temptations, from Dog Chewz NYC got Koala really excited. They are free of wheat, soy, and corn, sugar, fats, preservatives and artificial ingredients, but not of flavor (at least that is what I hear - no empirical evidence to share). Easy to chew, the treats are great for teething pups and older dogs alike. Appealing flavors include Apple Cheddar, Vanilla Almond, and Chicken and Parmesan. Bonus – the black resealable bags and golden hued gift boxes can be reused for other purposes…We’ll leave that up to your imagination.
