Drinking Honesty is a Good Policy

Water is fabulous, but every now and then we just need something with a little more oomph. One of our favorite new bevies here in the ecofabulous office are the line of teas and “ades” (as in lemon) from Honest Beverages.
For the most part, the ecofabulous staff sticks to drinks that don’t come in a plastic or glass bottle, or in a paper cup. We can be spotted at all hours toting our travel mugs to the coffee shop, or filling our Klean Kanteens at the water filter. But when the craving for something with a bit more flavor hits, some of us journey out for an Honest Tea or an Honest Ade.
The beverages are very tasty, flavored with only with fruit juice and organic cane sugar. The entire line – which includes 28 yummy flavors like Cranberry Lemonade, Citrus Green Energy Tea, Moroccan Mint Tea, and three flavors in juice pouches, especially for kids – is certified organic and packaged in PETE, a fully recyclable, Phthalates-free plastic, which won’t leach and uses less energy to produce and ship than other types of plastic bottles. Or, to create even less waste, we’ll occasionally buy a 64-ounce bottle for the whole office to share in our metal containers.
So next time you have a hankering for something with more zing than water but don’t have the time to make a pitcher of homemade iced tea or lemonade, Honest Beverages are a great choice. Just don’t forget to recycle!
Super Duper Foods

Transition Nutrition brought a necessary dose of “superfoods” to the ecofab office, after sampling a bevy of cupcakes this past week. T.N. gathers the finest in raw ingredients from all corners of the earth, including goji berries, organic cashews, almonds, macadamia nuts, coconut oil, royal Himalayan pink crystal salt, Irish Moss, Tahitian vanilla beans, blue green algae, and organic raw cacao from Ecuador. They say, “Your body will smile, your spirit will soar, and your consciousness will expand from the quality of these SuperFoods!” This would be a great healthy addition to kids lunches (unless they attend a nut-free school) or to keep in the car for instant energy. You gotta get some!
Responsibility Au Lait

If ever a product has proven our point that making responsible choices does not mean sacrificing life’s little indulgences, Pachamama Coffee Cooperative has done so. In fact, doing the right thing can be downright delicious.
Incorporated in Davis, CA, the farmer-owned company has a clear mission: to provide customers with a premium organic product and, in doing so, improve the lives of coffee farmers and their families. The cooperative has united more than 13,000 family farmers and takes the concept of “fair-trade” to a higher plain; in a nutshell, the employees of Pachamama work for the farmers, not the other way around. Calling all New Yorkers! If you’re in or around Brooklyn this coming Thursday (September 18th), the 4th Annual Green Brooklyn Event put on by The Center for the Urban Environment will be packing in a full day fair and symposium where attendees can get the lowdown from local experts on socially conscious investing, solarizing one’s building, choosing non-toxic home products (and of course where to buy them), how real urbanites compost, shopping eco-chic, and what New York City is doing to create a more sustainable future. And alongside a farmer’s market will be booths where you can make art from recycled products, catch a film, and more. How we wish we could hop on a plane for this one…we hear algae-based ethenol is coming to airfield everywhere soon. Then we might have gone!

Just a couple of years ago you would have to trawl numerous watering holes to land an organic cocktail but, luckily, times have changed! We enthusiastically welcome Praire Vodka to the bar. It is sure to regularly be gracing our ecofabulous aluminum martini glass (click here for details on the glass)… and found in our favorite eco pomegranate cosmo recipe. (more…)
Salt of the Earth

I’ll admit, that in the past I was fairly content with my Mediterranean sea salt. But what girl can resist dazzling pink crystals. Though I was wowed, the Himalayan pink salt still had to survive a grueling taste test with the rest of the discerning ecofab crew. So we dashed the rosy condiment on everything from fresh sliced tomatoes and grilled vegetables to a thin-crust margarita pizza. And the verdict was unanimous: These crystals rock!
Available in a 4-ounce glass or a 5-pound bag, the robust organic salt is harvested from a brackish spring located deep in the mountains of Peru. Adding a crunchy texture to sweets and savories, the flavor is milder and more nuanced than traditional salt. It also adds a sultry kick to a margarita, especially if you serve up one infused with watermelon or strawberry. Great for home or a gift, this is one bottle no ecofab kitchen should do without.
