A One-Day 101 on Brooklyn Green
Date: September 16, 2008 | Category: Events, Food & Drink, Lifestyle, Stores & Resources

Calling all New Yorkers! If you’re in or around Brooklyn this coming Thursday (September 18th), the 4th Annual Green Brooklyn Event put on by The Center for the Urban Environment will be packing in a full day fair and symposium where attendees can get the lowdown from local experts on socially conscious investing, solarizing one’s building, choosing non-toxic home products (and of course where to buy them), how real urbanites compost, shopping eco-chic, and what New York City is doing to create a more sustainable future. And alongside a farmer’s market will be booths where you can make art from recycled products, catch a film, and more. How we wish we could hop on a plane for this one…we hear algae-based ethenol is coming to airfield everywhere soon. Then we might have gone!
Bidding on a World of Good

According to consumer reports, some 88% of Americans self-identify as “conscious” or “socially responsible” when making purchases. We, however, weren’t the only ones pleasantly surprised by this information. Ebay seems to have been taking notice too. With the unveiling of World of Good by Ebay, you now have an online marketplace for ethically sourced and eco-friendly products. All sellers are vetted by “Trust Providers” to verify their products meet a core set of standards, providing transparency to buyers who want to know exactly what they’re buying and from whom. We’ve been voting with our dollars and it is paying off. Whoopee!

Support the Green Party!

The ecofab crew loves a great party. But all that celebrating can wreak havoc on the planet. Think about the paper plates, plastic utensils, latex balloons and plastic water bottles that typically wind up rotting in landfills. If you happen to live a few thousand miles east of New York, however, you can now have your cake and eat it too. (more…)
