There’s always a great feeling you get when you support an organization like Roma Provisions, which designs and sells stylish rain boots for kids and adults so that its nonprofit subsidiary, Roma for All, can distribute boots to children living in poverty.
Founded by Samuel Bistrian, who immigrated to the United States from Romania as a boy, the company takes its name from the children it hopes to benefit: the Roma population of Central and Eastern Europe. It’s mission? “To keep feet warm and dry by providing a comfortable, durable, and practical pair of Roma Boots to every needy child living in cold and wet climates.” Bistrian came upon the idea after visiting family in Romania and seeing underprivileged children wearing insufficient footwear during the brutal winter months — including one young girl out in the freezing slush in only a pair of sandals. The hope is that a simple solution like warm, weatherproof boots will help empower kids to better travel to school, get the education they need, and break out of the cycle of poverty.
