Sometimes, all it takes is an artisan’s eye to realize the potential of worn items that others might not give a second glance. Designer Shannon South has a knack for turning discarded leather into purses that are au courant, adding fun flourishes like denim detailing when she fancies it. With a rock and roll sensibility cultivated over years of making one-of-a-kind outfits during her time on the college club circuit, South has an eye for what’s fabulous and brings this viewpoint to her design process.

South’s accessories offer proof positive of her taste and inimitable style: she’s produced a cohesive collection of hobos, clutches, iPhone and iPad sleeves, and large market bags all constructed from pre-loved leather. As South works from reclaimed materials, no two bags are alike, varying in hue and finish but consistent in a style that is always on-point. Buttery soft, the bags get their sturdiness from glittering gold hardware and organic cotton lining, and are put together with impeccable attention to detail. Think of South’s creations in the same way you would a fine wine; these vintages are just hitting their wearability peak.
