Bowling for Art

If the word “reclaimed” ever needed a makeover these bowls might be the impetus needed. Stephen Staples of Staples Cabinet Makers hand-turns wood from old barns, mills and houses (that would otherwise have become landfill) into nothing short of art. He then finishes them with Velvit Oil - a soy-based product - achieving a smooth, satiny surface. Called “wedding bowls,” maybe in the hopes that the happy couple will find beauty in one another’s imperfections, the cracks and crevices are highlighted to convey such a notion. Just don’t try to use this as a cereal bowl. This gorgeous vessel is a show stopper that calls for still life. If you ever doubted it, Staples proves that dumpster diving has its merits.
