From Rot to Riches

Above our favorite New York City meatpacking destination (that is the oh-so-eco-stylish Stella McCartney) lies an equally respectable establishment - Hudson Furniture Inc. They construct beautiful furnishings from an array of wood types that includes Claro Walnut, Black Walnut, Myrtle, Jasmine, Acacia, Satinwood and Ebonized Pine. What makes Hudson ecofabulous, no old growths were harmed in bringing the beauty of these woods to your home. Their slabs are domestically sourced from either salvaged or wind and rain damaged trees. Founder and designer Barlas Baylar says, “We put high regard and value
on these trees by turning them into pieces of enduring art instead of
leaving them out to decay.” And with a regard for the tree’s natural form, traditional joinery techniques are then used to create organic, inspired one-of-a-kind pieces.
