Grain founders James Minola and Chelsea Green first met while taking a course in Guatemala as students at the Rhode Island School of Design. Fast forward several years later, and the couple has formed a design practice just outside of Seattle dedicated to social and environmental responsibility. The result? A line of gorgeously green goods created as sustainably as possible in the Pacific Northwest or in collaboration with artisan communities back in Guatemala. Case in point: this bold striped Laguna Large pillow ($145), responsibly made by Guatemalan craftsmen using rapidly renewable materials like 100% Guatemalan-grown cotton. Soft and non-toxic, the classic cushion is naturally colored using the 15th-century Mayan process of dyeing with cochineal and sacatinta leaves.
