The Bold and the Beautiful

Twins Dawn and Deborah launched their textile company, Oliveira Textiles, with a heavily dog-eared and highlighted copy of Cradle to Cradle at their side. Equipped with impressive textile experience - a client list that includes Emanuel Ungaro and Ralph Lauren - Dawn’s twenty years of owning her own New York design studio guarantees that Olieveira’s premiere “Ocean Collection” won’t skimp on quality. What it does leave behind are toxins of any sort, opting for an all-encompassing eco-process that takes into consideration weaving, dyeing, printing and finishing. Pained with the struggle of cancer within their own family, these sisters are actively engaged with organizations like the Organic Trade Association (OTA), Co-op America and the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) to enhance an industry that is notoriously wasteful and polluting. After all it takes a third-of-a-pound of pesticides to produce a single cotton shirt! Oliveira’s colors are so vibrant that I think a little can go a long way with these fabrics. You could make a bold statement with curtains from their Shellgame in crimson but I’m thinking of having some pillows made from their Anemone in seaweed. Whatever you do you’ll be making a statement with Oliveira’s fall collection (in more ways than one).
