Art of the Matter

Since high style with low impact is hugely important to us at ecofabulous, we’re excited about the stunning (and sustainable) art offerings up for grabs on May 17 at Fresh Canvas, a gallery event to benefit the Cancer Support Community–Benjamin Center in Santa Monica, CA. In honor of its 30-year anniversary celebration, the organization is bringing together two eco artists, Janet Roberts and Billy Zane, to showcase 30 environmentally friendly paintings.

As a four-time cancer survivor, Janet Roberts uses her art to help others affected by the disease. She paints with an emotional energy you can feel, along with eco-friendly supplies created by infusing soy, milk, clay and organic elements onto organic cotton and linen canvas.

Roberts’ good friend, social activist, actor, and fellow eco-warrior Billy Zane (read our interview with him here) shares her passion for constructing pieces with recycled or eco-sustainable materials. He began painting while filming of “Titanic,” using only local materials to create his abstract works. Items like old signage, shipping crates, and shelf liners become his canvas; soil clay, and wine become his paint.

Proceeds from sales will help support free-of-charge programs at the CSC-Benjamin Center. For details or for a private viewing, visit cancersupportcommunitybenjamincenter.org. Want a sneak peek at the paintings? Start here.
