Straw of Steel

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s an Endurance Reusable Straw ($9.95), an eco-kitchen staple whose stainless steel makeup can survive multiple uses, hard knocks, and would even test the object-bending strength of a certain superhero. Whether used for kid-friendly fruit drinks or adults-only cocktails, the silvery hued straws add instant sleekness to any drink and make sipping a more fun or sophisticated affair, depending on your age. Introduce one of these into your household and there’s no reason to purchase a packet of plastic straws ever again, especially since the Endurance beats out its wasteful counterparts in looks and environmental-consciousness. We’ll raise a toast to that.

While I think these are a great idea to prevent waste, I’m wondering — how easy are they to clean? Seems like a lot of germs could live in there.

Pipe cleaners would help clean out any clinging stuff and since they’re stainless steel they could handle a soak in boiling water.

I put them in the dishwasher and the only time that I have had a problem is when I got coconut lodged in the neck (I like to scrape the fibrous part). Stick to liquids and you shouldn’t have a problem, or at least I can say that in the 6 years I’ve been using mine, I have only had that one due to user error.
