Treasure this Island

Yes, Treasure Island (just off the Bay Bridge) popped up all over the green radar with its plans to become an entirely sustainable community. But that will take years, so in the meantime, there’s another eco-reason to kayak over to the treasure of the Bay. The people behind the Treasure Island Music Festival on September 20th & 21st are working heartily to reduce their carbon footprint while staging an awesome music fest with a hot line-up that includes Goldfrapp, Tegan and Sara, Hot Chip, TV on the Radio and 25 more.

Biodiesel generators. A carbon offset option for ticket buyers ($1). Bauer’s zero-emission buses shuttling from AT&T Park to Treasure Island in style - their entire bus fleet utilizes advanced engine technologies and ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel to minimize environmental impact. Recycled napkins, paper towels, and toilet paper throughout the event make this one eco-lovin’ free love party.

Last year, 72% (9.2 tons) of the waste was diverted to recycling and composting. This year, they’re striving higher. So if you go, try to help them reach their goal.
