Feel Good About Your Goods

The novelty of going to a locally-owned market has all but been lost in a world where super-chains tend to dominate. Call us old fashioned if you will, but we long for stores stocked with goods hand-picked for their excellence, the transparency of knowing where products come from, and attention to customer satisfaction.

Enter Abe’s Market, an online retailer that embraces the innovations of our age while staying true to the essence of small marketplaces—a sort of nouveau mom and pop shop. Friends and co-founders Jon Polin and Richard Demb bonded based on their love of the outdoors and a respect for the environment that would eventually birth their e-store.

Abe’s Market online is where you can find A Perfect Pear’s artisanal Olive Oil and Vinegar Set, Bunny Butt Apothecary’s whipped and lavender-scented Body Cream, and Plum Creek’s 13-piece Lunch Kit — essentials for a well-rounded green lifestyle, if you ask us.

Abe’s does not throw items up for sale willy-nilly; their lines are very carefully chosen, with Polin and Demb concerned about knowing the story behind every company featured on their website. Abe’s is concerned with ethics, quality, and nurturing community not turning a quick profit.

There are four main categories to shop for the time being: Personal Care, Kids and Baby, Home, and Food and Beverage, with more to come in the future. We’re particularly impressed that shoppers have the chance to ask sellers questions about products so, as the company puts it, you can “feel good about your goods.”

Really like the idea behind Abe’s Market. I have never shopped their, but it sounds great. I live in Los Angeles and really miss the small town markets that my family grew up with. Maybe this will be a good solution. There really is something to be said about a company that hand picks their items for true customer satisfaction and not just the bottom line. Great article!

    Thanks, Mike

This is a great concept. We are developing a similar concept in Canada, but for all great local products, not only natural and organic.
