Adapting to a Greener Future

Surfing the net feels eco-friendly (I guess anything that has surfing as part of it sounds clean). It makes us feel good that we’d probably be using up precious resources like paper and gas if the world wasn’t at our fingertips via laptop (with a CO2 Saver downloaded of course). Dig a little deeper though, and you’ll see that your connection could be much greener than you even imagined.

Every home with internet access needs some type of router or networking device, and with new faster, more reliable product releases, old devices become obsolete quickly (again, keep what you can!). The largest provider of routers within the United States has finally taken the step to create a more sustainable but equally powerful unit. Apart from receiving an Energy Star rating on some of its products, Linksys claims that the new power adapters will cut energy use by a total of 50%. Packaging for the entire Linksys line-up will be composed of 80% recycled material and only use vegetable and soy based inks. This new step should eliminate the total waste Linksys creates each year by 40% and save around 790 pine trees annually. Your network just got a little bit cleaner.
