Style & Substance: “Gifts Giving Back” Event
‘Tis the season for giving in many forms – gifts, thanks, and assistance to the less fortunate whenever possible. It’s also the season for champagne soirees as displayed at last week’s “Gifts Giving Back” event to benefit Toys for Tots in Los Angeles, put on by our friends at Coco Eco Magazine, Love Heals jewelry, Fred Segal Santa Monica, and Greenbees, among other ethical vendors.
The spirit of glitter and glam – inspired in part by celebrity chair Rachael Leigh Cook (pictured above with Rachel Avalon, winner of the Project Green Model Search) and the participation of ecofabulous-favorite, Linda Loudermilk – was alive and well. Many a stylish green shopper showed up with a donation for Toys for Tots, and took the opportunity to peruse some of Fred Segal’s many green gift options. While artists from Tarte Cosmetics gave mini makeovers and organic burgers from O! circulated the crowd, guests learned more about co-chair Love Heals’ ambitious, charitable mission.
The handcrafted jewelry is produced locally in Ojai, Caifornia, and for every piece of jewelry purchased, 10 trees are planted. This has amounted to over 320,000 trees over the years, which is only a fraction of their efforts to give back. In addition, they donate proceeds to abolishslavery.org and Vitamin Angels, the latter who provide resources to children on the verge of blindness.
With their versatile layered charms, Love Heals exemplifies one of ecofabulous’ central beliefs: style and doing good can go hand-in-hand. We spotted one fashionable guest who had turned a long lariat necklace into a belt, inspiring us to think of new ways to wear pieces from their extensive collection.
