Media, Talk Techie To Me:
Amplifying Our Choices
Our iPads (in eco cases) are a flutter with Al Gore’s interactive “Our Choice.” The newly released app based on the environmentalist and former Vice President’s book includes earth insights and documentary footage in a tight educational package. Some of ecofabulous’ favorite sections include:
- What Goes Up Must Come Down: A shockingly simple look at the effects of man-made deterioration of the atmosphere;
- Population: A positive glance at the world’s slow but steady efforts to curb population growth;
- The True Cost of Carbon: A meaningful portion on market forces around the invisible-but ultimately costly-problem that is CO2;
- The Power of Information: A glimpse at the importance of information technology to rapidly understand our ecology.
The presentation of our collective choices considers whether future generations will find us cowardly (“did you hear the warnings and just not care?”) or inventive (“how did you find the moral courage to rise up and solve a seemingly unsolvable crisis?”). At $5, the app is a steal. It’s the best form of investment: paying for high quality ideas, 250 images with corresponding maps, and infographics as a way to flex our own decision-making muscles.
