As the mother of two children, Zem is committed to improving all families’ health, education and access to well-vetted information. To that end, she sits on the boards of Healthy Child, Healthy World, Global Green, and Teens for Safe Cosmetics.
Davis Studio Architecture + Design, creators of pieceHomes
Jonathan and Mary Jo Davis founded Davis Studio Architecture + Design in 2002 to fulfill the promise of green architecture and design. The husband and wife team create modern living spaces that connect people with their natural surroundings in a harmonious and healthy way. Their dwellings combine the best sustainable, efficient, non-toxic materials and energy efficient technologies with superior architectural design.
Davis Studio A+D exemplifies a philosophy that is at once passionate and practical. Jonathan trained at SCI-Arc and later worked with luminary Frank Gehry, where he collaborated on the Walt Disney Concert Hall and established his position at the highest levels of architecture. In his 26 years as an architect, his work has distinguished itself with a rare simplicity and clarity. His structures never call attention to the design itself, but rather to the warm, natural feeling one has within the space. Mary Jo’s background as a designer and art director for numerous years at Microsoft, encompasses work in graphic and interiors.
The two work in a seamlessly collaborative fashion to produce structures that infuse a human and personal approach to modernity with a concern for the environment and for the health of their clients. DSAD addresses the need for modern comfortable living spaces that are efficient and work within urban areas, yet maintain a sense of expansiveness. Hallmarks include the use of rich natural materials and textures, and flowing, multi-functional spaces.
