Combine the backgrounds of two moms in San Francisco, one in sustainable construction and environmental research, the other an artist and teacher, and what do you get? The creation of a line of eco-friendly modern playhouses, furniture and accessories designed to let the imagination roam.

The Modern Playhouse collection has a minimalist design, but boasts maximum planning and consideration. Manufactured in California from FSC-certified domestic lumber and maple apple-ply and finished with a non-toxic, non-formaldehyde interior finish, the homes are ready for some DIY family fun (the houses come in 5 pre-assembled panels and will take less than 1/2 hour to put together). Modern Playhouse intends to release three beautiful color finish options next spring, but in the meantime, work with the kids to paint the interior and exterior with eco-friendly no-VOC paints.

Available in two styles, the Wedge ($1,250) and the Circle ($1,450), the houses are currently available for pre-sale and will ship out September 1st.

Once you have a house, it’s time to think about furniture and accessories! Modern Playhouse has a modular furniture collection that doubles as convenient storage when not in use. If you’re not ready for anything as committal as housing or furniture, take a look at the gorgeous textiles. From aprons to pillows to bunting, the colorful collection boasts organic cotton and non-toxic, water-based pigment inks. Pillows come with a kapok fill (our favorite).
