All Buttoned Up

mrtedi

The Teddy Bear Picnic just upped its chic quotient. Saving well worn men’s button-ups from certain disposal, designer Annika Jermyn uses the once crisp clothing to create nouveau teddies ($75.00)—cute enough for kids, but sophisticated enough to serve as home decor regardless of age. Jermyn’s background in fashion and interest in graphic design manifest themselves in the wee bears, who sport sharp collars and are named according to their unique brand of style: Mr. Joshua is a pinstriped, banker-esque fellow “making the money dollars,” while Mr. Max is “professional, yet soft” in a subtle plaid print.

Inspiration for the huggable creations came from Jermyn’s husband, whose “shrunk in the wash” shirts were too beautifully fabricated to simply toss. Fond of the stories that old objects tell, Jermyn decided to weave a tale of her own—one of the stylish transformation from fashion staple to snuggly companion. We’re so glad that this sartorial saga has a happy ending. Purchase the pillowy pals on Etsy.
