A New Lease on Life

tamasyn-gambell

Frustrated with the fashion industry’s fast-paced consumption, lack of innovation and incredibly wasteful methods, Tamasyn Gambell set up shop on her own. Producing a series of “luxurious considered designs” that are as fashion-forward as they are social and environmentally responsible, the result is a collection of scarves and notebooks with rich, bold, colorful patterns.

All materials are handprinted in her London studio using organic dye and water-based inks. The luxury scarves are produced from silk by women in a welfare project in India. Your stylish scarf will be giving back by providing training, education, and housing for the community.

But it’s Tamaryn’s recycled scarves that initially caught our attention. Using reclaimed scarves, she reprints over them in one of her original designs. The old underneath pattern interacts with the new and a one-of-a-kind fashion star is born (£20 to £45.00). Have an old scarf of your own that needs a new lease on life? Send it in and Tamasyn will customize it, add a printed overlay and voila!

The mod geometric patterned paperback notebooks are a must-have for girls on the go (you can’t take notes for everything on your iPhone). Made of 100% FSC-certified post-consumer recycled paper printed by a co-op in Britain using vegetable oil-based inks (3 for £9). Hardback notebooks get a softer touch, bound in vintage scarves reprinted with Tamasyn’s designs. These get recycled one hundred year old paper stock from an old British paper mill, and are bound by family bookbinders in Essex (£17.00).

Taking what’s old and making it new with a flair all her own, we can’t wait to see what’s in store next for Tamasyn Gambell.
