Viva Vivarium

We’re always fans of a Kickstarter campaign for a good cause. So when the news came out about an effort to get the independent and eco-minded film VIVARIUM off the ground, we took notice.

Launched by filmmakers Jonathan Ehlers, Patrick Ward-Perkins, and Jason Radspinner of LoneShark Studios, the campaign is aiming to raise $59,750 (a modest budget for a movie) to fund the filming of an environmental sci-fi thriller. The flick is set in a dystopian future where all plant life has been wiped out due to biological warfare — and people pay to experience the virtual reality of Earth as it once was.

We appreciate that the film’s concept calls attention to growing environmental concerns, but we also like that the production is intended to be eco, too. “In supporting the film’s strong environmental message, we’re committed to making VIVARIUM using environmentally sustainable filmmaking methods,” co-creator Patrick Ward-Perkins explains. “The film will be carbon neutral, we’ll have no plastic bottles on set, and we’re paying it forward with our eco-friendly rewards in the Kickstarter campaign.” That includes lavender seeds and a tree planted in your name even at some of the lowest contribution levels (starting at $9).
