Turning Oldies into Goodies: Eco Couch Upholstery

By ecofabulous founder, Zem Joaquin. Presented by The eBay Green Team.

This past summer Ecofabulous designed the interior of the Reclaimed Space showhouse at Dwell on Design. Since the cottage was diminutive, everything had to be scaled down and easy to move. When we were sketching out the space I instantly thought of my grandmother’s couch from the 1940′s (I’ve been coveting it for over 20 years). It took some puppy dog eyes to convince grandma and some imagination to make it work with the rest of the decoration, but the process was well worth the end result. (more…)

By ecofabulous founder, Zem Joaquin. Presented by The eBay Green Team.

I can get obsessed with my eBay searches but when stalking furniture, keeping it local is best (no shipping charges and less fuel needed to transport). Kijiji, eBay’s local classified site, makes it simple to search for listings in my area and meet up with the seller to view the furniture in person.

Turning Oldies into Goodies: Transformed Phone Bench

By ecofabulous founder, Zem Joaquin. Presented by The eBay Green Team.

I love buying vintage furniture and adding new life to a piece that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. eBay and their local classifieds site, Kijiji, both have millions of great treasures that, with a little TLC, can be turned into something totally unique and fabulous. Now the eBay Green Team brings together thousands of eBay users who are shopping pre-owned not only because it’s chic and affordable, but because they know that the greenest product is the one that already exists. Oil is History

Art can take on many forms, from Pollock’s chaotic splatters on canvas to large scale light installations. What’s rare, though, is hearing about pieces made with low VOC paints, energy-efficient bulbs, or sustainable materials. But an upcoming exhibit at artist Louise A. Marler’s stylish L.A. Marler Studio has turned art into environmental commentary. From staging to printing, the photographs in Marler’s “Oil is History” series send a direct message about transportation, pollution, and how both affect our surroundings. (more…)

Spread the Warmth

When the weather outside is frightful (or just when you’re in need of something cozy to cuddle up with), wrap yourself in one of Ladak’s sustainable, handmade blankets.

Appropriate for both indoor and outdoor activities, each blanket is assembled from a base of recycled sweaters, blankets, jeans, and mattresses before being adorned with ribbons and rich fabrics. Each product is truly a unique piece of skilled handicraft—no two are exactly alike. As a result, the blankets may vary slightly in size, yet their standard measurement is a roomy 78” x 55”—perfect for a day at the beach or a picnic in the park!

In addition to its commitment to sustainability, Ladak also supports social responsibility. This mission is not only reflected in Ladak’s corporate philosophy, but also in the products themselves—each blanket is named after an inspirational homeless hero (Arie and Willem are shown above) and 15% of Ladak’s profits will be donated to an Amsterdam shelter for the homeless.

Ladak blankets will be available online and at Anthropologie stores this fall.

Now that you’re a responsible adult, summer may not exactly mean three months of sweet freedom, grape popsicles for breakfast, or running through the sprinklers ‘til the sun goes down. Cheer up, grown up: summer now means outdoor parties, and no one is telling you to “go home kid, it’s getting dark!” (more…)
