Into the Frei

Frei Designs is the result of a harmonious blend of gorgeous fashions and eco-friendly methods from an up-and-coming Chicago design house. Frei minimizes its footprint in the usual ways by using organic and sustainable materials like hemp and wool, plus low-impact or no impact organic dying processes. But they also religiously recycle everything they can at the Frei HQ and even re-purpose pattern paper scraps into homemade paper stock to use as hang tags. What’s most impressive: they source industry scraps, such as overstock designer fabrics, to use in their own collections. This smoky Greek myth-themed “Persephone” dress, for Spring 2008, is a gorgeous (and highly-coveted) example of one of their designs made from overstock Swiss cotton voile and dyed with pomegranate juice. And it’s available for purchase online at Adina and Company. Maybe you’ll even get an antioxidant boost from your dress?!
