Time to Toss the Toxic Flip Flops

Leather production’s toxic and wasteful side effects have been well-documented, and Begoodesigns is cleaning up the reputation of such products and extending their lifetime by turning leather from sources such as armchairs and car seats into sandals. Begood’s sandals are made with 99% excess leather, and all are crafted by hand and fairly traded. The sandals have a flirty, beachy feel and come in varieties including a woven version as well as several strappy styles, with bright flowers and leather petals adding a dash of island flavor. while the product has good intent, the title of the article is misleading by suggesting someone throw out their toxic flip flops. obviously, if you throw them away your only shortening their useful life and accelerating how fast they contribute to leaking any toxins into the environment, plus you are buying a new set of sandals that very likely does not have a zero environmental footprint.
i would have appreciated the article if it were reframed as what someone might do when faced with a new purchase.

Great sandals, and what a good idea! In a similar vein, a handful of companies are making some nice products from recycled flip flops and foam rubber remnants, which makes me feel slightly less guilty about my own rubber flip flops.
