DIY with John Patrick Organic & Ecouterre
Date: August 10, 2010 | Category: Fashion, Women

As huge fans of designer John Patrick (his eco-fashion line ORGANIC is constantly sported at ecofab HQ) and of sustainable fashion site ecouterre.com, we were thrilled over the recent DIY article published on how to create a “nouveau-bohemian” skirt out of an old t-shirt. Like we always say, “the greenest product is often the one that already exists,” plus this skirt idea is totally eco and fabulous. All you’ll need is a measuring tape, ruler, disappearing ink pen, scissors, sewing machine, and thread (and the old shirt of course). Take a look at the before and after below and then hop on over to ecouterre for the full instructions!

Few will argue that hospital maternity gowns top the list of fashion’s worst nightmares - is there anything less stylish than a boxy cloth sack revealing your entire backside? Now add the fact that standard gowns are washed in all sorts of nasty chemicals in the name of “disinfectants” and you have one of the least desirable items to sport when welcoming in your new bundle of joy. Guess what ladies, you’re not the first mama to raise this concern. (more…)

While mainstream retailers can often be one of the harder places to spend consciously, American retailer, J.Crew, has recently given us a new shopping outlet. Known for it’s well-tailored, slightly preppy aesthetic, this season J.Crew has collaborated with the sophisticated WANT Les Essentials De La Vie accessories to produce an exclusive line of Ivy League-looking laptop cases and travel bags made from organic cotton and sustainably produced leather (read: vegetable tanned, rather than dyed with toxic chromium). Willie Shakespeare never could have guessed that one of his more gruesome and famous plays would be the namesake of Blink-182 front man, Tom DeLonge’s very fashion forward footwear company. Macbeth might have been about greed and power but these shoes are just the opposite. Made of organic canvas, denim, homemade vegan glue, and heat-molded natural rubber, these kicks successfully maintain Tom’s rocker image while keeping in mind All the Small Things - no pun intended.
