Light of My Life
Date: November 4, 2008 | Category: Lifestyle, Tech, Travel, ecoMan

Whether you love to camp, or just don’t get around to taking out the recycling until well past sundown, having a reliable flashlight on hand is key. Having one that isn’t a battery hog is just plain smart.
The BoGo flashlight is one-of-a-kind, featuring a solar panel which will juice up rechargeable batteries just by letting the flashlight get some exposure to the sun during the day, and super-bright LED bulbs light up the darkest night. The Bogo charges in 8 hours, and provides 4-5 hours of illumination. It also features a night glow strip, which will help you find your torch when you hear rustling outside in the middle of the night.
Plus, when you buy a BoGo flashlight, the company will donate one to someone in need, allowing you to light up your own life and someone else’s for just $49.
A Total Zero

Our favorite eco-bag company, Rickshaw Bagworks, has just announced a product that might just revolutionize the satchel industry.
Made in San Francisco from domestically sourced materials, the aptly named ‘ZERO‘ was designed to eliminate waste. Available in three sizes and in an array of colors, the ZERO bag combines minimalist design, monopolymer construction (translation: one material for easy recycling) and wasteless manufacturing to create a bag that is hip yet functional, all while reducing your ecological footprint.
Wouldn’t it be nice if everything had Zero effect on the environment?
Mas Mojitos Por Omar!
Date: August 25, 2008 | Category: Body Care, Skin Care, ecoMan

Last week, ecofab teammate, Andrea brought in her scrumptious, vegan (though you’d never know it) Mojito cupcakes for a little taste test from her freshly-launched business, Come Hither Cupcakes. Suddenly I was craving the minty cocktail, but I cannot legally consume alcohol yet, so, imagine my delight when I discovered the Mojito Man shaving collection. The fresh citrus scent wafting from the beautiful packaging evokes sensational images of an afternoon in Puerto Vallarta (where I can get my drink on), while the organic blend of ingredients provide you with an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial facial experience; the perfect solution to unsightly ingrown hairs. The M.M. repertoire includes a shave gel and scrub, moisture mist and an antique shaving brush. Can’t decide what to get? Pick up the gift box, which includes a bit of everything. In this Ecofabster’s opinion, Mojito Man is muy caliente! Best, Omar

Governor Kulongoski of Oregon recently made headlines for doing what so many eco-conscious residents in his state have done for years: He biked to work. Since most of us aren’t blessed with a two-mile commute and dedicated cycle paths, having a sturdy, portable set of wheels can mean the difference between hitting the gas pump and the pedal. STRiDA is making life in the bike lane more fun and fashionable.
iPhone meets iDrive
Date: July 22, 2008 | Category: Lifestyle, Tech, ecoMan

With the release of the new iPhone 3G, Apple’s application developer community has been busy redefining eco-mobility. The iPhone app store now features five innovative eco-applications, all dedicated to changing the way you burn fuel. AccuFuel, which will run you $.99, helps you measure gas consumption in an easy-to-read visual way, displaying graphs that detail your pump history. FuelGage and GasHog present this data in a simpler fashion.
If you’ve got a little extra green to burn, for $1.99, CarStat takes the above applications to the next level. Old school iPhone owners take note: with Apple’s free upgrade to iPhone 2.0, these cool eco-apps are available to you as well. We applaud the iPhone community for making consumers more savvy about carbon emissions. But once again, we remind you that it’s always greener to love the phone you’re with.
Google Adds a Little Green to That Colorful Logo
Date: June 30, 2008 | Category: Lifestyle, Stores & Resources, Tech, ecoMan
Google has green in its DNA. From organic gourmet meals in their commissary, to building 43 (designed by William McDonough), to biodiesel buses, Google takes sustainability seriously, which is why I was always surprised that the swag emblazoned with the famous multicolored logo was missing a little green. But now the Google Store has gone green! From organic cotton t-shirts to non-polluting brief bags, Google’s eco-friendly products are sure to satisfy any search-a-holic. Omar has already added the 100% bamboo towel and hemp travel organizer to his shopping cart, and we’re all oohing and aahing over the organic cotton infant rib hat. Have fun searching for your own Google goodies!
Aptera Awe
Date: May 28, 2008 | Category: Lifestyle, Tech, Transport, ecoMan
Mrs. Jetson, your vehicle awaits. Well, not quite yet. And only if you live in California. Splendora turned us on to the Aptera, a three-wheeled enclosed motorcycle, scheduled to go into production in late 2008, that certainly looks like it could be the vehicle of the future. It performs that way too: Aptera, which means “wingless flight”, can go from 0-60 in under 10 seconds (ok, so the Tesla smokes it, but wait for the price) and the hybrid version recently test-drove at 230 miles to the gallon (an all-electric version is in the works as well). Aptera promises comfy seating for two plus an infant seat (for up to 3 years of age) as well as plenty of storage space. This aerodynamic amazement will set you back between 26 and 30 grand, but it’ll be worth every penny when you fly past the 4+ dollars per gallon pumping station!
