John Patrick Uses the Carrot, Not a Stick

Last week, John Patrick introduced his super chic line of organic and alternative-fabric clothing to an eager audience at Carrots, in San Francisco. The crowd was anything but crunchy and the gorgeous garments lived up to all of the hype. The acclaimed East Coast designer uses organic cotton that he has personally ensured is as healthy for the growers, the wearers and the earth as possible - he regularly visits and trains the cotton pickers and is continually trying to advance unique approaches to sustainable couture. He fashions dresses out of bamboo, shirts out of cotton waste from the clothing industry, tailored slacks out of eco-linen and structured jackets out of organic wool. Patrick’s entire collection is biodegradable, but it is the type of collection that will stay in your closet for many years before you will bury it in the yard. I picked up a ridiculously soft yellow bamboo twinset that is perfect for many Springs to come. The fall line is much less casual and has all of the elements of a refined collection that says “I mean business” (for the planet or otherwise). And our male readers will be just as satisfied as our femme fatales - the fall line for guys is excessively stylish and extremely sexy. But Patrick is so obsessed with environmentally sound clothing production that his understated label merely says ORGANIC. He believes all clothing should be organic, so he would rather focus on that than a narcissistic image. John Patrick, that’s what I call being the change!
