Of Rice and Men
Date: August 15, 2008 | Category: Food & Drink, Lifestyle
Given that one fifth of the human population eats rice on a regular basis, eating certified organic brown rice is not only healthier than its paler cousin, it’s better for the planet. Massa Organics is so dedicated to their favorite crop, they even built their own home out of bales. Cultivating a family farm outside of Chico, California for more than 90 years, they distribute most of their product through local farmer’s markets and grocery stores.
Team ecofab steamed up a batch and found it fluffy, nutty and subtly sweet. Even the gluten-free fans found it easy on the palate. Blending the best of clean technology with ecological stewardship, the Massa family recently expanded their 90 acres of organic rice fields to include 30 acres of almonds (a blessing to anyone who has been trying to buy the illusive butter). To educate future farmers on the importance of green farming, they also invite students to drop by for a savory taste of environmentally-conscious farming. Do I hear road trip?
