Date: December 18, 2008 | Category: Lifestyle, Stores & Resources
Last week in Splendora’s newsletter, we were pleased to see eco-friendly wrapping paper make the “What To” List. They spotlighted Seltzer, which creates hilariously creative greeting cards, graphic tees, gifts and stationary. Founded in 2005, the New York-based company uses 100 percent organic cotton, 100 percent post-consumer FSC-certified recycled paper and veggie-based inks. (more…)

Mrs. Claus is a Striper

There are eco-accessories for the whole family at Pottery Barn. Getting colicky environmentalists off on the right side of the crib, they have a cute organic baby line. PB Teen’s line of organic bedding is essential for any tween. But Mr. & Mrs. Claus shouldn’t have to towel off with pesticides either! Pottery Barn’s Mason Stripe Organic Bath Towels are festive but not seasonal enough to garner ho ho ho’s the rest of the year. (more…)

Choosing reusable shopping bags is one of the easiest ways to cut down on your waste and take a simple step in the path towards living sustainably. Thankfully, there are now a lot of eco-totes on the market, but they are not all created equally! A little more fulfilling than most is the Whole Foods FEED 100 bag. (more…)

The Nature of Beauty
Date: December 15, 2008 | Category: Beauty, Body Care, Hair Care, Makeup, Resources, Skin Care

Here’s the truth about beauty: as glowing as our morals, character and values may be, a girl will always love her products – who can blame her for adoring that perfect red lipstick?
But for an ecofabulous devotee, it can be hard to sort through all the lines claiming to be “all-natural” and “eco-friendly,” only to find out that the product still contains a host of harmful chemicals, usually bearing unpronounceable names.
Earlier this year, The Nature of Beauty launched with the goal of becoming the premier source of natural and organic beauty, body and hair care in America. The Nature of Beauty has emerged as a sweet solution for concerned eco-cosmetic devotees everywhere. With a comprehensive inventory of eco-products – including those for the ladies as well as for the eco-man and mom & baby – The Nature of Beauty is the Sephora for eco-conscious consumers. (more…)

Is Fido Watching his Figure or Doing it for the Environment?
Date: December 13, 2008 | Category: Media, Pets, The Home

Pasta, rice, quinoa, oats and vegetables – a healthy, well-balanced dinner is served… for Fido. That’s right, V-dog vegan dog food is made of such high grade natural ingredients, you could probably eat it yourself (not that we are advocating for such action). Tai (our discerning golden retriever tester) gobbled the sample up in 30 seconds and spent the rest of the evening sniffing around his bowl for more. So if you plan on making a new year’s resolution to kick the meat habit, is the family pup going to be the only carnivore? (more…)

‘Tis the Season for Eco-Gifting
Date: December 12, 2008 | Category: Events, Holiday & Gift, Lifestyle

The holiday season is the most drastic example of unconscious consumerism - we are usually so busy that even the most thoughtful of us forget our priorities. Taking the planet, the economy and the individual into consideration this year is easier than ever! If you like buying thing in person and live on the west coast there are a couple of year of expos that make the one-stop eco shop a reality. The Eco Holiday event in San Francisco and the Eco Gift Festival are great places to see many things in our eco gift guide come to life.
The first annual Eco Holiday event is a local shopping experience, presented by the Urban Alliance for Sustainability (UAS), a non-profit co-op based in San Francisco. This is a kid-friendly shopping event that boasts clowns, elves, jugglers and magicians!
The Eco Gift Festival in Santa Monica is devoted to alleviating the difficult emotions, inconveniences and terrible waste created by the conventional shopping experience. With 93 percent of all waste from the event diverted from the landfill, you can trust that these folks are committed to the cause. This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, enjoy great music, organic food and enlightening speakers in addition to the great gift getting. Stock up for family and friends knowing that 10 percent of the gross proceeds will be donated to The Whole Planet Foundation and Global Green USA.
P.s., Santa requested some Vosges organic chocolate instead of those stale cookies kids keep leaving!

Is Your Baby a (Organic) Gerber Baby?
Date: December 11, 2008 | Category: Food, Kids

Making your own locally sourced baby food is best, but let’s face it, it isn’t always possible! Did you know that Gerber makes organic baby food since 1997! Even if you were an early adopter (no pun intended), you might not have seen all of the latest offerings. The Gerber Organic 2nd Foods Dinners are complete meals in a cup, like the Chicken with Country Vegetables & Rice or the Vegetable, Turkey & Barley. (more…)
