Be Jeweled
Date: May 14, 2010 | Category: Fashion, Jewelry, Women

It’s true, diamonds are a girl’s best friend, with gold, silver and other gemstones trailing close behind. But after we discovered that gold mining is one of the most polluting industries in the world, (not to mention the devastating conflicts surrounding diamonds), we had no choice but to stop buying jewelry unless it was vintage or we knew where it was sourced. Lavishly Natural

Want in on a dirty little secret? Studies show that many antibacterial soaps contain pesticides (like triclosan) that are used to kill bacteria. Research shows that all you need to do is get rid of the germs on your hands, not kill them - so there’s no reason to be using such toxic chemicals so close to your skin (not to mention the fact that antibacterial soaps aren’t any more effective at killing the viruses that actually make you sick!). What’s the solution? Good old soap and water. (more…)

Each year we add to our growing guide in order to provide you with everything you need to get out there and get cruising! (more…)

Light My Fire
Date: May 6, 2010 | Category: Home Furnishings, The Home

Women of all ages have an affinity for sweet-smelling candles. The mood-setters are hands-down the most inexpensive way to soothe your senses and brighten your day. But make sure you’re infusing the right kind of “essence” - conventional candles are made from petroleum-based paraffin (inherently non-renewable) and emit soot containing known carcinogens and neurotoxins - the same that’s let off by diesel fuel! Thankfully, petroleum-free, vegetable-based candles abound, like those from Linnea’s Lights, a mother-daughter run company specializing in hand-poured natural soy candles. (more…)

I Love Lucy
Date: May 5, 2010 | Category: Beauty, Body Care, Fragrance, Suncare

Looking for that healthy, sun-kissed glow? Attempting a perfectly smooth, natural-looking, sun-goddess bronze can often be a challenge, especially considering most self-tanners stocked at your local beauty store are chock full of toxic synthetic chemicals, making that “healthy glow” anything but. In fact, the EWG states that sunless tanning creams are some of the worst offenders in the skin category. Yikes! At ecofabulous headquarters, we swapped synthetics for plant-based bronzers long ago, but admit that few produced the golden results we’ve seen from Lucy B.’s Organic Bronzing Shimmer Oil. (more…)

Take a Tour of the Original Ecofab Pad!
Date: May 4, 2010 | Category: Green Building, Home Furnishings, The Home

Lookiloos.com and Scene Magazine recently teamed up to profile ecofabulous founder, Zem Joaquin. The story (written by Julia Prodis Sulek) is a fascinating look into Zem’s life and unveils everything from her 1970 upbringing on a Palo Alto commune called “The Land,” playing with chickens, dancing in the central longhouse and singing with Joan Baez in the squatters camp off Page Mill Road, to the serendipitous path that led her to being the authoritative voice in making green glamorous. Coupled with the in-depth story are incredible photos (by Desiree Northend) of Zem’s Bay Area home, the original ecofabulous pad and the catalyst for her desire to start ecofabulous.com and share her resources. Established in 1987 and distributed in Europe, Asia and many other parts of the world, we’ve just stumbled upon the pot of gold skincare at the end of the rainbow (hint: the arc ended right in the luscious New Zealand countryside). Living Nature is produced exclusively with ingredients found in New Zealand - and since over 80% of the country’s plants are found nowhere else in the world, it’s no wonder this line is truly unique to what exists on the market today.
